The Leader Within
A series of four one day events to explore your inner leader

Is more being asked of you as a leader? Not just more in quantity, but more of the qualities needed to be successful?

Are you finding that intellect alone is insufficient to develop innovative, flexible and responsive teams and organisations that honour, develop and retain individual and collective talent and capability?

Today's leaders need to draw on more of their inner potential: to be creative, collaborative, decisive, courageous, visionary, inspiring, and caring, .

Leadership is as much an expression of who we are as what we do. These four events will transform your inner leadership capabilities and make you a more effective leader of yourself and others.

1. The Wise Leader
Do you find that the expansion of information and knowledge coupled with complexity and change are making it more difficult to make sound decisions?

Paul Nutt in his book, Why Decisions Fail, reports, "For more than twenty years I have been studying how decisions are made - the key finding is startling - decisions fail half of the time".

The Wise Leader event will teach you how to make better decisions by drawing on individual and collective knowledge and experience in ways that generate deeper insights, more profound thinking and clear, purposeful action.

We use the Wisdom Council, a process whose simplicity and wholeness are easy to grasp, and yet it is worthy of a lifetime of study. It is capable of holding the enormous complexity of the whole without getting lost in the details. The design of the Council remains visible and accessible, and guides us to a place of clarity - a clarity that is in harmony with our highest aspirations.

On the day you will learn:

  1. How to use the Wisdom Council to access your individual or team wisdom
  2. To look at issues through eight perspectives that brings wholeness, order and clarity to the most complex problems.
  3. How to diagnose what is missing and what is needed in challenging situations

2. The Centred Leader
Do you stay in command - whatever challenge you face?

Each of us has many different facets and qualities, we all contain a cast of many characters that constitutes our 'self'. In the very centre, the essence of who we are, is the leader.

When there are many voices with myriad suggestions, opinions and ideas and the situation calls for leadership, this is the only part within us that can take command effectively.

The Centred Leader event will teach you how to access your centre when you are called on to lead. On the day you will learn:

  1. Five qualities of command that enable you stay centred and in self-authority.
  2. To develop a clear image of who you are when you are centred and in command.
  3. A tool to enable you to respond, rather than react, whatever the challenge.

3. The Balanced Leader
Can you access your full potential - when you choose to?

We all have the capacity for creative expression, for adventure and change, for caring and sustaining, and for courageous and decisive action. Often, some of these qualities are more developed in us than others and we rely on and use only the stronger ones, even in situations where they are not appropriate.

Balanced leaders draw on their natural and innate talents in all of these areas, balancing creative vision with the need to sustain, exploration with the need for clear action.

The Balanced Leader event will teach you to identify and access these qualities in a more effective way. On the day you will:

  1. Learn the Medicine Wheel of the Four Shields of Balance
  2. Access and develop the qualities of the Four Shields within yourself so you can call them forward when needed
  3. Identify where these qualities can make you a more effective leader and plan to use them.

4. The Conscious Leader
Is time your scarcest resource - or is it your attention that's scarce?.

Time is a fixed resource, but your attention can be expanded.

Conscious leaders are able to stay present and hold an attention on many issues concurrently. They keep a clear sense of direction and don't get pulled off-track. They learn quickly and shift fluidly when they need to.

On the day you will learn:

  1. A Medicine Wheel of Four Attentions that will expand your consciousness.
  2. How to stay present.
  3. How to stay aligned and focussed on your purpose
  4. How to learn from what is happening every moment
  5. When to shift your energy to be more effective

The Leader Within Programme
We design and run The Leader Within as an in-company programme spread over 4-8 months. Each event is of one day duration and, combined with assignments and online support and guidance, results in deeper understanding and application of the tools in the learner's life and work.
